Luminance Meter PCE-LMD 100 | Display Photometer for Self-Illuminating Surfaces, Class A according to DIN 5032-7, with DICOM GSDF Testing

The PCE-LMD 100 is a luminance meter, also listed by PCE as a photometer and lux meter (it measures luminance in cd/m², not illuminance in lux), built to measure the light emitted by self-illuminating surfaces such as monitor matrices, TV screens, negatoscopes, and reading boards. It suits display QA staff, medical imaging and IT technicians, and service engineers who need repeatable luminance readings in cd/m² from 0 to 50,000 cd/m² (0 to 14,593 fL), taken through an external probe with a 1° measuring angle and a 10 mm (0.39 in) measuring field.

PCE classifies the PCE-LMD 100 as Class A according to DIN 5032-7 (Class A, CIE, DIN 5032-7). Total error is 2.5% at +10 to +40 °C (50 to 104 °F) and 3% across -10 to +50 °C (14 to 122 °F). Measurement is split across two ranges: 0 to 500 cd/m² at 0.01 cd/m² resolution for dim screens and viewing boxes, and 500 to 50,000 cd/m² at 1 cd/m² resolution for bright displays.

Greyscale Checks on Monitors to DICOM GSDF

A built-in function tests the greyscale reproduction of monitors according to DICOM GSDF, giving radiology departments, clinics, and service providers a direct way to check how a display renders grey levels. PCE designed the measurement to stay accurate regardless of the spatial distribution of the measured luminance or the backlighting.

Recording and Transferring Results

Readings update once per second (1 Hz measurement rate) and can be saved to the integrated measured value memory, which records results automatically as a text document on the supplied 8 GB micro SD card. The storage interval is adjustable from 1 s to 60 s, and data can be moved to a PC via the Micro-USB interface. The instrument menu is available in English and Polish.

Compact Kit for Site Surveys

The PCE-LMD 100 runs for 23 h on a charge, powered at 5 V DC / max. 2.1 A from the included USB power supply and micro USB cable. The main unit measures 118 × 74 × 21 mm (4.6 × 2.9 × 0.8 in) and weighs 172 g (6.1 oz); the probe measures Ø 25 × 160 mm (Ø 1.0 × 6.3 in). Everything ships in a transport case, with a total weight of 1.4 kg (3.1 lb) including accessories.
