The PCE-RVI 8 is a benchtop Stormer-type viscometer engineered for production-floor quality control, paint and coatings labs, and condition monitoring of process fluids. Operating as a viscometer, viscosity meter, paint viscosity tester, and condition monitoring instrument in a single rugged unit, the PCE-RVI 8 measures Newtonian and near-Newtonian fluids across a wide range of consistencies, returning results in Krebs Units (KU), centipoise (cP), and grams (g) on a 5″ LCD touchscreen.
With a measuring range of 27–5,250 cP (40.2–141 KU) and an accuracy of ±1% of full scale, the PCE-RVI 8 covers everything from light solvents and inks to heavy architectural paints, varnishes, adhesives, and lubricating oils. A fixed 200 RPM rotation speed (the Stormer convention) makes results directly comparable to ASTM D562-style Krebs Unit readings, while the included external temperature probe lets technicians correlate viscosity to sample temperature and verify measurements against reference conditions.
Paint formulators and coatings manufacturers rely on Krebs Units to specify and verify consistency at every stage of production. The PCE-RVI 8 delivers KU readings directly with 0.1 KU resolution, alongside cP and gram readouts so lab teams can switch between specification standards without converting on the fly. The 600 mL stainless steel sample pan, height-adjustable stand, and KU1 spindle (included) match the standard sample geometry expected for paint, ink, varnish, and adhesive testing.
The 5″ color LCD touchscreen displays live viscosity values during the measurement and graphs the reading curve as the test progresses, so operators can confirm steady-state behavior before recording the result. The external temperature sensor (range −20 to 250 °C / −4 to 482 °F, resolution 0.1 °C, accuracy ±0.3 °C) lets teams verify that each sample is at its specified test temperature, removing one of the largest sources of viscosity measurement error.
Designed for daily use in production QC labs, the PCE-RVI 8 features an automatic shutdown function that protects the spindle drive in the event of an overload. The height-adjustable stand mount, transport case, and touchscreen pen are included so the instrument is ready to deploy out of the box. An optional PC analysis software bundle (PCE-SOFT-RVI, with data cable) adds live data viewing and export to PC for teams that need to log, archive, or share viscosity records.
